Round two of the Carlisle Netball League saw Penrith take on Stewartry Netball Club in a tough-fought match that ultimately ended in defeat. The Penrith side did not settle until well into the second quarter, by which time Stewartry had truly hit the ground running. Each quarter was won by the opposition and the match ended with a score of 20-40 to Stewartry.
Although there were numerous unforced errors on each side, questions were raised surrounding the umpiring, especially in the third and fourth quarters. Obvious errors were not penalised and game management was dubious. Despite the challenges, all players displayed good resilience in the face of an increasing goal difference and kept fighting on until the final whistle.
The second quarter brought a much closer contest. Penrith crept their score line up bit by bit to come within three goals of Stewartry, executing some wonderful passing combinations and picking up good momentum up and down the court. These are good foundations to build upon for when the two teams meet again in round seven where Penrith hope to come away with the win.
Congratulations are also in order for both Players of the Match, Victoria Baker (Penrith) and Robin Jardine (Stewartry). Penrith Seniors will take to the court once more for round three of the Carlisle Netball League when they take on Solway Saints on Tuesday 14th December.
