They say all good things end, and sadly this was the case for Penrith who couldn’t secure the third win on the trot against a tough Solway team on Tuesday 15th March. It must be said, however, that the final score of 20-31 to their opponents does not fully represent the hard-fought battle that unfolded on court.
It’s fair to say that this was a game full of coach killers and turnovers on both sides which was as exhausting to watch as it was to play. A strong break from the first whistle gave Solway the lead early on, forcing Penrith to play catch up in all four quarters. The first half was relatively low scoring in comparison to past matches, with quarter scores of 5-9 and 9-16 to Penrith and Solway respectively in each of the first two.
Heavy praise must go to Solway’s shooting partnerships who were outstanding throughout. Their ability to turn to post and then get the goal from anywhere in the goal circle was quite something to witness.
Penrith began to make a comeback and build their momentum in the fourth and final quarter, finally maximising on the turnovers they won and getting some goals back-to-back. Solway weren’t for backing down though and pushed on to take the victory when the final whistle blew.
